The Area

Villemolaque lies on a small knoll in Les Apres hills in Roussillon. It is on the edge of the Pyrenees, firmly in French Catalonia, with views of Les Alberes running to the sea at Collioure, but dominated by the 9,000ft height of Canigou in the background. The Mediterranean is some 20 minutes away, with vast expanses of beach at St Cyprien plage, the quiet and intimate Le Racou, and the bustle of Collioure.

Ceret, where the modern art movement flourished early in the 20th Century, is 15 minutes away, offering a traditional French backdrop of castle, old walls and large shady trees.

Spain is 20 minutes away, with easy access to the Costa Brava and the Salvador Dali's home town of Figueres and the shoppers city of Girona 30 and 40 minutes respectively from Villemolaque.

A little further afield is the fortified city of Carcassone, with the wild impenetrable Cathar country of the Corbieres between it and Perpignan.

In winter, the Pyrenees offer skiing, and the lower lying areas are excellent for cycling, and walking.
