SPRING

Spring is probably the favourite time of year for local people. From March, during the day, it is generally warm enough to sit outside at cafes and bars. The fruit trees are in blossom (cherries, apricots), and the vines are coming to life.
It is cool enough to pursue the more active hobbies such as hillwalking or cycling, but warm enough to relax outdoors on most days.

SUMMER

Obviously the peak holiday time, summer is the time of reliable sunshine, high temperatures and the need to seek out the shade at midday.
Eating alfresco, whether breakfast, lunch or dinner, is a relaxed lazy affair, and the beautiful warm evenings are perfect for sipping wine and putting reality into perspective.
Towns and villages have their fiestas, a little more like Spain than France.

AUTUMN

A beautiful time, with warm sunny days, although the evenings are not as sultry as summer. You may well be eating inside after sundown from late September. The vineyards are busy, with the leaves turning, and the sea is still warm enough for swimming.

WINTER
The weather is of course not as reliable in winter, but it won't be endless cloudy days with drizzle, as in the UK. What you will get is clear days, with outstanding views of the mountains, and Canigou will, of course, be snow capped through to May or June.
In winter, Roussillion is a popular location for the top cyclists, as the climate is reliable enough for maintaining fitness with minimal risk of cold wet weather. Walking in the hills and other outdoor pursuits can be fantastic
Don't forget that the Pyrenees have plenty of ski slopes. Many of the locals go off for the day to ski, although it is an hour or so to the slopes.
We consider that the boost factor between UK and Roussillion is greater in winter than in summer, helped by staying light until after 6.00pm, even in December.
